DST training guide

One clear record.
Every location included.

Start with an accurate site list, then connect each location’s equipment, training needs and responsible people.

Give every location and device its own record.

Use a stable site reference and a separate device reference. This avoids confusing two identical AEDs or treating a moved device as a new purchase. Record the site address, exact AED location, make, model, variant and serial number.

Add a named local custodian, deputy and central programme contact. Keep the manufacturer’s instructions available to the people responsible for checks. A shared spreadsheet can be a practical starting point if updates and responsibility are clear.

Separate verified dates from missing information.

Record pad expiry, battery installation and the applicable battery replacement rule separately. A purchase date is not automatically an expiry date. Keep a note of the label, manual, supplier confirmation or inspection record used to verify each entry.

If a label is unreadable or a serial number is incomplete, mark it for confirmation. Do not fill the gap with the same date as another device. Record an issue, its owner and the next action until it is resolved.

Plan training by role and location.

Keep the course title, completion date, attendee count and record location for each group. Ask the organisation’s training lead to set the next review date according to staff roles and applicable requirements. Include new starters and colleagues who missed the previous session.

List different clinical or paediatric requirements separately. For DST’s standard course, use up to 15 people per group and two hours per session as planning figures. Count groups at each location before adding them together.

For example, a site with 18 attendees and another with 8 suggests three standard groups: two at the first site and one at the second. At £399 + VAT per group, that is an indicative £1,197 + VAT before the final programme is agreed.

Send a useful brief for a coordinated quotation.

  • Each site’s postcode and attendee numbers by role.
  • Preferred dates, shift patterns and deadlines.
  • Existing AED makes and models, with any known equipment queries.
  • Required course scope, certificates and record format.
  • One person authorised to agree the programme.

Use DST’s multi-site training service to bring the training details together. Ask the team separately about equipment supply, consumables or servicing. The quotation should state what is included, how records will be supplied and which tasks remain with each site.
