Keep your AED records
ready for the next check.

Use the instructions for your exact AED model to set its checking routine. Keep a record of what was checked, when and by whom.

Use a routine that matches the device.

Assign a custodian and deputy. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the device’s status indicator, storage conditions, consumables and any required checks. Record the check date and any action needed.

Check that the equipment is present and accessible, that pad packaging is intact and within its stated expiry, and that the device shows the status described as ready in its manual. Do not open sealed pads simply to inspect the electrodes. Follow the manual and seek support if the AED gives a fault indication.

Keep battery information distinct from pad expiry.

Record the battery part number, installation date and any label or manual instruction governing replacement. Different models use different rules, so avoid applying one universal replacement interval.

For pads, record the compatible part number and expiry shown on the packaging. Where more than one pad set is held, keep a separate record for each. Confirm whether the specific model uses separate child pads or a manufacturer-provided child mode.

Send enough information to identify the replacement.

Include the AED make, complete model and variant, serial number, current part number and clear photographs of the relevant labels. State the date by which the replacement is needed and whether the device is currently showing a warning.

DST can discuss replacement pads, batteries and equipment. Ask for compatibility, availability, the quoted consumable’s expiry information and fitting instructions to be confirmed before purchase. Do not substitute a generic battery on appearance or connector shape alone.

Close the loop after use or a fault.

After use, arrange the checks and replacement consumables specified for the model before marking it ready again. Document any service or repair and the condition on return. If registered on The Circuit, keep its availability and guardian information current.

An optional supplier inspection can support your records. It does not remove the need for local checks, and there is no single paid annual servicing rule that applies to every AED. The manufacturer’s instructions and the setting determine the requirements.

See DST’s published servicing options and the multi-site records guide. Training can help staff understand local arrangements; book through the CPR and AED course page.
