Start with the roles in your practice.
List clinical and non-clinical attendees, their responsibilities and the age groups the practice treats. Identify staff whose duties involve particular equipment or procedures. Ask the clinical lead to confirm the required learning outcomes.
Resuscitation Council UK’s primary dental care standards call for resuscitation knowledge and skills to be updated at least annually. They also cover role-appropriate practical training and keeping training records. Use the current standards alongside your organisation’s requirements.
Confirm the content in writing.
A general community CPR/AED course is not a complete dental medical emergencies course. DST’s published two-hour core course and its price should not be assumed to include every clinical skill, assessment or CPD requirement.
- State adult, child and infant content required.
- Identify airway, ventilation, oxygen and relevant equipment skills.
- Specify any sedation-related or other additional requirements.
- Confirm practical assessment and the records you need afterwards.
- Ask how scenarios will reflect your premises and team roles.
DST will discuss the requirements and confirm suitable scope and delivery before a booking is agreed. See the dental practice enquiry page.
Bring equipment details into the enquiry.
Provide the AED make and model, where it is kept and the equipment the team is expected to use. Note any new device, changed room layout or access issue that should be considered when planning the session.
Keep your equipment register separate from the attendance record. If pads, batteries or other consumables need checking, assign that task to the responsible person rather than assuming that a training booking includes a service. Use the AED records guide for planning.
Plan dates, records and several practices together.
For one practice, send the postcode, attendee roles, preferred date and time available. For a group, provide those details for each location and identify the central booking contact.
Ask for the agreed syllabus, duration, group size, price, assessment arrangements and certificate or CPD documentation in the quotation. Keep a record of completion, absences and follow-up training needs. Do not treat a requested date as a confirmed booking.
