Describe where the AED will be used.
Tell the supplier whether the equipment is for an office, workshop, school, sports venue or a team moving between sites. Explain the opening hours, likely users and whether children are part of the setting. These details help the supplier check the model and package against your requirements.
For outdoor or mobile use, ask for the selected device’s permitted storage conditions and the proposed cabinet or carry arrangement. A case alone does not establish that an AED can be left in an unheated vehicle or outdoors.
Compare complete packages on the same basis.
| Item | Detail to confirm |
|---|---|
| AED | Exact model and automatic or semi-automatic variant. |
| Consumables | Included pads and battery, compatible replacements, and applicable expiry or replacement dates. |
| Storage | Carry case, wall bracket or cabinet, plus any installation requirements. |
| Support | Warranty terms, fault reporting and arrangements if the AED needs repair. |
| Training | Course scope, attendees, duration, venue and included records. |
Ask for the total including VAT where applicable, delivery and any installation. Compare replacement-consumable prices using the exact part numbers. Do not assume that the longest advertised warranty also gives the lowest ongoing cost.
Build training into the plan.
DST’s standard onsite CPR, AED and BLS course is two hours for up to 15 delegates. The standalone group price is £399 + VAT (£478.80 including VAT), with certificates and individual AED/BLS booklets included.
DST also publishes a £299 + VAT training offer when purchased with a defibrillator. Ask the team to confirm the qualifying package and complete price. If your team needs clinical, paediatric or a specific first aid qualification, state that before a course is agreed.
Training can include a discussion of the AED your organisation owns. Send its make and model with the enquiry. See the full course details and training cost guide.
Name the person who will look after it.
Agree who keeps the equipment record, organises checks and handles consumable orders. Give that person a deputy so responsibility does not disappear during leave or staff changes.
Use the AED checks and consumables guide to organise the handover. Equipment care follows the manufacturer’s instructions; a training certificate does not replace it.
For a purchase, visit DST’s defibrillator shop or email the team with your location, intended use and training numbers. You can request a training quotation on this website.
